My $2,000 Guardian Angel Miracle

My $2,000 Guardian Angel Miracle

Every day, God sends His angels to guard His people on earth. I’ve journaled many instances when I believed I had angelic help. Here’s the story of one of them.

Do you know that angels are mentioned more than 300 times in the Bible? We know from Revelation 5:11 that God’s angels number “ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands.” Other verses speak of “myriads and myriads” of angels. No matter how one calculates this number, it’s a lot of good angels, and they’re all around us in the invisible world, keeping us safe from the devil’s minions.

My dear friend, Joan Wester Anderson—an expert on angels and the author of several bestselling books about them—has documented countless stories in her books about how angels help humans every day. In Where Angels Walk. She writes:

“My investigations revealed that whatever their beginnings, angels have three basic purposes: to worship God, to serve as heralds between God and his people on the earth, and to act as our caretakers while never interfering with our free will.”

Pastor Greg Laurie calls these caretaker angels God’s Secret Agents. “They have a specific ministry in our lives, dispatched by heaven to help us, and they often step in and thwart the plans of the devil or simply help us out without our knowledge.”

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that we have our own guardian angel, but it’s clear that God does send guardian angels to help us. I believe angels have helped me many times, such as when I was driving and miraculously avoided an accident, when a stranger assisted me with something I was struggling to do myself, and when I fell on ice one morning and lost consciousness. When I came to, I was surrounded by people who had already called for an ambulance. Perhaps an angel nudged others in the area to head in my direction, or maybe one of the strangers was an angel in disguise.

Yes, it’s true; angels sometimes appear as humans, as this verse confirms: “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares” (Heb. 13:2).

This I know for sure. The following experience proved to me that a guardian angel came to my rescue one day, because something miraculous happened that could not be explained any other way.

My $2,000 Guardian Angel Miracle
~ As documented in my 2002 Christian Journal ~

I did the stupidest thing that day, and it nearly cost me $2,000. But God was watching out for me. I cashed in an IRA and had a couple of other small checks for deposit, so I wrote the deposit slip, endorsed the checks, and headed for the bank. In a hurry as usual, with my hands full as I went to the garage, I laid the three paper-clipped checks on the roof of the car so I could get my keys out and lay the other stuff down on the seat. Got in, drove to the bank a few blocks from my house, pulled in, and suddenly realized I’d left the checks on the roof of the car!

As I raced home, crying and praying, I believed all was lost because the wind was blowing fall leaves and papers all around me. Flags were whipping in the wind, and logic told me I didn't have a chance of finding those checks. But fools always have hope.

As I turned onto my street, I started looking at lawns for anything that looked like paper, figuring the wind would have whipped the checks off the roof the minute I backed out of the driveway. They could be a block down the street by then or in anyone’s yard, just waiting to be found by an unscrupulous soul who could cash them.

It was then that I realized I had also endorsed those checks without writing “for deposit only,” because I knew I would hand them to the bank personally. Being Saturday, I reasoned that someone could find my IRA check and cash it before I could notify the company to stop payment on it. I really needed that money, and it was as good as gone.

Can you imagine how I felt when I saw those three paper-clipped checks lying on the sidewalk at the end of the driveway? I hit the brakes and leapt out of the car to grab them, even as the wind continued to blow. Of course, I saw this as a miracle, knowing the checks were there only by the grace of God, who had surely sent a guardian angel to put his foot on them until I got back.

Crying tears of thanks and gratitude to God on the way back to the bank, I wanted to shout to the world how good God is to His children, and that he does watch out for us, especially when we do stupid things like this.

“If you say, ‘The Lord is my refuge,’
and you make the Most High your dwelling,

no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
They will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”

(Psalm 91:9-12; NIV)
