What are Your Plans for the New Year?
Are you where you want to be in life? Or do you
feel you need to get your act together this year?
“In this life you will have problems, obstacles, oppositions, and things meant to discourage you,” says Jonathan Cahn in the January issue of Sapphires magazine. “But here’s the key: No matter what’s against you, no matter what the problem or conflict, no matter what the discouragement—don’t get wrapped up in the problem that is against you. Just keep building. Just keep moving forward.”

On New Year’s Day, I felt stuck between the old year and the new one without the mental energy to figure out what I needed to do to “get my act together” this year. I felt overwhelmed by the number of things on my to-do list I’d carried over from last year—things still undone either because I couldn’t find enough time or lacked the motivation to do them.
The Collins Dictionary defines “get your act together” as “organizing your life or affairs so you’re able to achieve what you want or deal with something effectively.” All I wanted to do on January 1 was ignore my to-do list and extend the lovely two-week annual vacation I’d given myself for the holiday season.
“I need the month off!” I told my sister Mollie, who reminded me that I was my own boss. “You’re in control of your life, so forget your to-do list for a while and just do what you want to do when you want to do it.”
That’s why this Bulletin, usually published early in the month, is two weeks late, and why it took me until January 15 to do my usual first-of-the-month home page update and publish my “Personal MUSINGS” blog post. I hope you’ll take the time to read “In What Season of Life Are You Now?” It discusses the four seasons of life and the importance of reflecting on where you are in life’s journey. I hope this writing will prompt you to think about what you did last year that you might want to do differently this year.
Now that I’ve screwed up my whole publishing schedule, I’m trying to deal effectively with the writing/scheduling problem I’ve created for myself. For starters, future Brabec Bulletins will be short (300–500 words) and on a life-related topic I hope many will find interesting or helpful. As for getting my whole act together, I’m taking Jonathan Cahn’s advice to keep moving forward. And if something blocks my way, I’ll look for a way to go around it. My ultimate goal this year is to further simplify my life and free up some time to finish Call of the Heart: A Rescue Dog’s Dream—my first work of fiction based on a true story. Wish me luck!
A new “Tidbits on Life” will follow shortly, and I’ll be back early in February with more to say. As usual, I welcome your comments if you'd like to tell me what you’re doing or want to do differently this year.
First published as a Brabec Bulletin on January 19, 2024.
