The Bullet That Changed the World
The attempted assassination of Donald Trump before his election changed not only his feelings about God and religion but how he would govern and begin to change the world as President.
Last July when an assassin’s bullet missed Trump’s skull by a few millimeters at a rally in Butler, PA, I and countless millions in America and the world believed his life was spared by God. Even Trump soon acknowledged that, saying he believed it was because God wanted him to “Make America Great Again.” But I believe God wants more than that from him.
The Bible tells us that “He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning” (Daniel 2:21 NIV). I’m grateful to be alive at this time in history to see what our President is doing to bring justice and accountability back into our government.
I learned more about the President’s faith journey from his address at the bipartisan National Prayer Breakfast in February. Once again, he credited God for saving his life and urged Americans to keep God in their lives. Earlier he emphatically stated, “America can never be great again if it turns away from God.” He also said that the attempt to take his life had changed his “relationship with religion,” and prompted him to sign some new executive orders.
One he announced that day was the appointment of Attorney General Pam Bondi to form a task force to “eradicate anti-Christian bias” and halt all forms of anti-Christian targeting and discrimination, not only in the federal government, FBI, and IRS, but everywhere in schools, hospitals, workplaces, the Military, and in public squares. I’m in favor of stopping the persecution of Christians, but some think he’s turned religious freedom on its head by singling out one faith. So I pray he hasn’t opened a hornet’s nest here. As a wise anonymous soul once said, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
I was happy to hear about the executive order that established a new “White House Faith Office” to be led by Pastor Paula White, a Pentecostal preacher and longtime adviser who led his “Faith and Opportunity Initiative” during his first term. My first thought was that he needed to hear from other clergy advisors to get a broader view of the Bible's teachings. But it now appears that Pastor White is cultivating connections with many religious leaders and communities. (See this article for details about the stated goals and specific details of the new White House Faith Office.)
In an interview with someone involved in setting up that office (I didn't catch his name), I learned that it is located a few steps from the President's Oval Office, which tells us how important he considers religious freedom to be. He confirmed that the President meets regularly with several evangelical pastors who were with him in his first term of office.
President Trump Speaks About His Faith
When the President was invited to speak at the 2024 Inaugural Faith Advisory Summit, he was asked what faith meant to him and how the assassination attempt impacted his faith; also about moving the U.S. embassy to Israel and how he advises his family. If you want to know more about his Christian beliefs, this C-SPAN video will answer your questions. I liked hearing that our President has attended church since childhood and has a large Bible collection, so I pray he will soon hear Jesus calling to him
Rabbi/Pastor Jonathan Cahn was also speaking at this event. Knowing the President was waiting backstage and listening to each speaker, he gave “a word” to him from the stage—a powerful prophetic message that brought attendees to their feet. Listen here to learn why Cahn says we are in a divine hour and what he revealed about the former president that has the potential to change our nation and the world.
I learned the rest of this story in Cahn’s “Word for the Month” message in his March issue of Sapphires. He said the “word” he gave the President was that this would be his last chance—that “Now was the time to fulfill the calling God had given to him since the moment of his birth. He had to go all out with God. If he did, God would greatly honor it.”
My Hopes for the Future
I hope God allows President Trump to continue doing what he promised to do because those who hate him and everything he stands for will never stop trying to bring him down—personally, politically, and literally since it’s obvious that many both in and outside of America want to see him dead. I believe the next two years will be in a constant state of change that will surprise, stun, and overwhelm those who oppose everything he’s doing now while also pleasing the millions of Americans who voted for the kind of changes he’s making. For the past four years, I couldn’t abide the news, but I now watch daily to keep track of what’s happening and how much progress is being made by the President’s executive orders and cabinet members who made it through the swamp to be confirmed.
If you love America, you should be happy about the way President Trump’s team is working to reduce the size, scope, and reach of the government, especially revealing how, for many years, USAID has been dispersing millions—sometimes billions—of our tax dollars in foreign aid for ideologically-biased programs, (See an early mind-blowing list here). What’s to complain about in how our President is strengthening our borders, bringing new businesses into America, and working with leaders worldwide to avoid war and accomplish peace through strength?
I applaud the speed with which ICE director Tom Homan has rounded up several thousand criminal illegal migrants known to be killers, rapists, cartel drug dealers, and terrorists, with countless more to be found. Who can argue that this is not beneficial to our country’s citizens? I hope he will soon be looking for the 300,000+ migrant children who disappeared after being brought into the U.S. and seeing that they get the care they need.
How good it would be to see the end of sanctuary cities and states and the day when all the horrific criminals have been found and imprisoned or kicked out of our country. I pray President Trump can find a humanitarian way to pave the way for some of the millions of other illegal aliens to become citizens, then find and humanely return those who are contributing nothing to our country. The money it costs to take care of them is stealing billions of dollars from American citizens and bankrupting whole cities and states. (Consider this astonishing example: California reportedly spent millions of dollars to support illegal aliens, leaving no money to pay mechanics to fix a hundred fire trucks that might have stopped the spread of the LA fires.)
How comforting it would be for my city friends to not fear being killed by an illegal alien when riding a bus, the subway, or just walking down a street. How satisfying it would be if all of us could once again say without fear of verbal attack that there are only two genders and quit allowing a minority of people to try to force us to use the “correct pronouns” when addressing them—something I’ve long opposed. (Read my rebellious thoughts on this topic here.)
“The Land of the Free”
and the Bible’s Message to Us
I pray we will soon get back to helping those who want to come to America to do it legally so they can become citizens like the millions before them who made our country the “land of the free and the home of the brave,” as proclaimed in the Star Spangled Banner. That phrase, explained on the internet, invites citizens to consider both whether the flag is still flying over a nation of freedom and whether its citizens still have the bravery and other civic virtues necessary to preserve it when so much has been done in recent years to destroy it.
Do you know that people’s anxiety about the future caused a surprising upsurge in Bible sales in 2024? This was largely attributed to growing interest from Generation Z and college students. Historically, the Bible’s annual sales have been around 80 million copies, so 2025 stats will be interesting. In case you don’t know how much the Bible has to say about patriotism, governing authorities, and the need to seek peace, I’ll leave you with three verses perfect for today’s times:
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance” (Psalm 33:12 NKJV).
“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God” (Romans 13:1 NKJV)
“These are the things you shall do: Speak each man the truth to his neighbor; Give judgment in your gates for truth, justice, and peace” (Zechariah 8:16 NKJV).
