A Global Food Crisis

The next time you order food online for delivery or treat yourself to a costly dinner out, thank God you’re not one of those who are starving.

“Conflict, economic shocks, climate extremes, and soaring fertilizer prices are combining to create a food crisis of unprecedented proportions,” said the World Food Programme (WFP) last year. “Today, as many as 343 million people in 74 countries are facing acute hunger. We have a choice: act now to save lives and invest in solutions that secure food security, stability, and peace for all, or see people around the world facing rising hunger.”

WFP, the world’s largest humanitarian organization, now serves the needs of hungry people in 17 countries. They add that “The number of acutely hungry people continues to increase at a pace that funding is unlikely to match, while the cost of delivering food assistance is at an all-time high because food and fuel prices have increased.”

I have never been hungry or without money and immediate access to good food, so it’s hard to imagine what it feels like to be starving. Yet even in my affluent city, many can no longer feed their family without assistance. I can’t help the world, but when my budget allows, I make small contributions to local organizations and food banks. Maybe you can do the same in your area.

5 Upper Body Exercises That Are Harmful

If you have osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, or disc herniation, watch this video for advice from physical therapist Margaret Martin. When I learned my last bone density test was no longer normal, I was advised to stop bone loss by doing bone-strengthening exercises. Martin’s videos are helping me do that. One hit home because I was doing arm lifts with weights while sitting, which I learned was harmful to my spine and would worsen the tailbone disc problem I have.

For Margaret Martin’s safe and intelligence exercises regardless of one’s fitness level, visit her YouTube channel.

The Science of Snowflakes

There is a science to how snowflakes are created, and this PBS video explains how each snowflake forms its one-of-a-kind structure as it makes its solo flight to Earth. Never mind that a scientist figured out how to make identical snowflakes in his lab. But he didn’t ruin winter as this video’s title proclaims because nature doesn’t work the way he runs his lab.

The first stunning photo of a snowflake was taken in 1885, and this fascinating article tells that story. Today, it can take days for a photographer to capture the intricate, unique design of a snowflake. Only God could have given us such a beautiful gift as falling snowflakes. What a pity that all the joy and beauty is lost when it’s time to shovel the driveway or sidewalk.

Remembering Prophetic Author Hal Lindsey

Christian author and minister Hal Lindsey went to be with his Savior on November 25, 2024. He was 95.

I have followed Lindsey’s writing since he published The Late Great Planet Earth in 1970, which became the bestselling nonfiction book of that decade. Translated into more than fifty languages, it’s still a best-seller on Amazon.

TIME Magazine called Hal “The Jeremiah of his generation.” Jan Markel, OliveTree Ministries, confirmed that title, writing, “His classic book sold 35 million copies, but other books and TV productions influenced millions more. I believe his two greatest contributions were his teaching that (1) Israel is the key to our past, present, and future. Most churches today marginalize this, focusing on church growth or are steeped in other theologies such as Amillennialism. Only Dispensationalism explains what the Bible teaches: The King is coming again, and Israel is the key to understanding this. (2) As believers, we should be awaiting Jesus Christ, not the Antichrist.”

Hal Lindsey’s life and work continue to touch the world. This article, “Forever Changed: Hal Lindsey’s Eternal Impact On Generations Of Trusted Ministries,” names several end-time prophecy authors and ministers who were directly affected by Hal’s service to the Lord. “As a result of the book, numerous eyes became open to the relevance of prophecy today, the sound teaching of our blessed hope, and the significance of the nation of Israel.”

Lindsey wrote a series of other bestsellers (available on Amazon) and hosted The International Intelligence Briefing on the Trinity Broadcasting Network from 1994 to 2005. In 2006, he began The Hal Lindsey Report, continuing with that program until 2019. (All the teaching videos that used to be archived are available now as audio downloads; DVDs of his classes are available for purchase from HalLindsey.com.

The Pencil’s Tale

This motivational two-minute video tells a story every writer should hear: how to use the gift you have been given to leave God’s mark on the world with the work of your hands.
